Community scheme to bring superfast broadband to part of Buckinghamshire village

A partnership between local residents and Openreach is set to make ultrafast broadband available to four homes in Bois Mill, Little Chalfont, Buckinghamshire, which hadn’t been included in the roll-out of fibre broadband.

They’ll be getting the latest Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) technology capable of delivering ultrafast speeds up to one gigabit per second (Gbps). The high-speed service, jointly funded by the local residents and Openreach, will be available within 12 months from a variety of service providers.

Little Chalfont resident, Philip Nixon, said “ I approached Openreach’s Community Fire Partnership scheme after realising that I was too far away from our local cabinet for us to get superfast speeds. They worked with us proactively to help find a way to upgrade our slow broadband and I’m very pleased that we have been able to work together with the other local residents to come up with a solution to vastly improve on our current speeds.

“Broadband speeds are more important now than ever before and this is going to make a massive difference to people living here. Once the work is complete, the technology will allow me to stream many of the TV shows we've not been able to watch and I won’t have to wait hours to upload large video files for storage in an online cloud based storage service. Everyone is counting down the days until the upgrade.”

Steve Haines, managing director for next generation access at Openreach, the business responsible for the majority of the UK’s phone and broadband network, said: “It’s great to be able to work with communities across Buckinghamshire to find a broadband solution. Partnerships like this help us to bring high-speed connections to challenging areas that broadband providers struggle to upgrade alone.

“More than 93 per cent of the UK can access superfast speeds today, and we’re committed to making fibre broadband as widely available as possible. That’s why we’re investing in hundreds of similar projects across the UK, with more than 350 contracts signed to date, working in partnership with business and residential communities to deliver faster speeds from a wide choice of competing service providers.”

The Openreach network offers wholesale fibre broadband access to all communications providers under the same prices, terms and conditions, so local households and businesses have a choice of many competing services from more than a hundred different providers.
